Okafor was unstopable tonight as UConn defeated Georgia Tech for the National Title. If it hadn't been for the late surge by GT, this game was a blowout. UConn had a 25 point lead at one point before they started slowing things down in the second half to run out the clock. This was not the Huskies style of play. It was what allowed GT to get back into the game to make the score closer than it really was. Okafor with 25 point and 15 rebounds, was too much for Geogia Tech's 7'1" Luke Schensher. It was supose to be the battle of the big men, but in the end it was a one sided route at the Center position. Josh Boone for UConn played a pivital role in assisting Okafor. While not quite a dominating performace as during the defeat over Duke, he provided any help that was needed to cool of Schensher if he did try to get a shot off away from Okafor. Basically, they shut the big man down.
Which brings us to the winner of OfficePool64.com's 2004 office pool. Congrats to Tom Coyer of Hopkins, Minnesota. He correctly picked 11 winners of the last 15 games. Started out a bit shaky in the first round only getting 25 correct out of 32, but when the points per pick increase as the rounds go by, the point totals add up fast and wins it in the last round by correctly selecting UConn as the National Champions. Tom was one of fourty people to correctly pick this years Champion.

Georgia Tech defeats Oklahoma State with a last second shot in the first game on Saturday evening. Then in the late game, UConn makes a huge comeback in the second half to knock off Duke. Both games, very fun to watch. Very close: 67-65 and 79-78 respectfully. So the final game of the 2004 Final Four March Madness tournament will be played on Monday evening, April 5 starting at 9:18 Eastern. Should be an exciting final game to watch.
As for this years Office Pool, it comes down to two scenarios. So if you want a peak at where you will finish depending on the outcome, have a look at the two game links: UConn over Georgia Tech or Georgia Tech over UConn.
Most people are already out of scoring any additional points in the office pool. Out of 328 people only 62 of them selected Georgia Tech or UConn to even be in the final game of the Final Four. 12 of them have Georgia Tech winning it all. While 40 people have UConn as the 2004 Champions. So the winner of this years office pool will either be from Florida if Georgia Tech wins or my home state of Minnesota of UConn wins!

Predicting winners in this tournament year after year can be such a challenge. I'm kicking myself for not selecting Oklahoma State to advance further in this tournament. I have them losing out to Wake Forest in one of my bracket picks and Wisconsin in the other. Opps, I couldn't have been more wrong. My only saving grace is my article I wrote this past Monday that they would be one of the Final Four teams. Along with UConn, Nevada, Illinios. Only 2 correct on my revised picks. Ahh, what strange twists this tournament plays out as the rounds come to a close. All in all, there have been some very close and exciting finishes to many of the games.
So we are down to only four teams in the 2004 Final Four tournament. Three remaining games. Lets look back on some of the stats from everyones picks in this years pool of 328 people.
We'll start with the final four teams:
Correctly selected Duke in the Final Four: 197
Correctly selected UConn in the Final Four: 160
Correctly selected Oklahoma St in the Final Four: 136
Correctly selected Georgia Tech in the Final Four: 48
Out of 328 bracket sheets, from the last four teams:
Have Duke selected to WIN the championship: 64
Have UConn selected to WIN the championship: 40
Have Oklahoma St selected to WIN the championship: 32
Have Georgia Tech selected to WIN the championship: 12
My thoughts as I look to next weekends final games. I'm giving the edge to UConn beating Duke Blue Devils. In my bracket selections, I have Duke losing in the Championship game to Kentucky. Let's look at their past game in this tournament. At least 15 point victories over every team they have faced. They are playing well as a team and are very explosive on the court. Will be an excelent game to watch.
Oklahoma State versus Georgia Tech. I still believe Oklahoma State is one of the hotest teams playing right now. Granted, the squeaked by St John's with a one point victory. Only St John's second loss of the season, so it was well earned. I'm not sure if Georgia Tech is a strong enough team to win their game on Saturday. I'm giving the nod to the Cowboys of Oklahoma State. It will be another close game in the end.

What a day at the water cooler it was in the office. I listened to everyones woe's about Kentucky losing to UAB [whom I selected to run the tables]. As I reflect back in the closeness of almost all of the games, I have to give credit to the the staff that made the pairings. The Round One games, almost all were within 5 points or less. Most of the victories going to the higher seeded team. Round Two was a bit different, we saw many of the higher seeds getting knocked out of the tournament.
So as I'm talking with people at my place of employment, I start giving out some predictions on the Round 3 and 4 games. Watching as many games as I could over the past four days. I saw who was hot and who was lucky on their wins. My three hottest teams: Illinois, UConn, Oklahoma State. I also believe that those three teams will be three of the four Final Four teams. Yes that's right, I'm saying Illinois will beat #1 seed, Duke Blue Devils. Oklahoma State will beat Pittsburgh and #1 seed, St Josephes. UConn will be victorious over whomever the face.
Which leaves one bracket to close out my fourth Final Four team. Since Kentucky was knocked out of it, that leaves us with: UAB - Kansas, Georgia Tech - Nevada. Since I have been totally wrong about Nevada as they have been a team on a mission, could they have enough team play to defeat GT? I think they do and will face UAB or Kansas. Again, I know nothing about UAB except they are playing with excitement and have confidence now after the their upset victory over Kentucky. I'd like to see UAB go wild and gain another victory to the elite eight.
It will be a fun game to watch, both underdogs to be here in this game, but I'm going with Nevada to beat UAB for the fourth spot in my 2004 Final Four teams.
In recap, we will see #2 Oklahoma State vs #10 Nevada then #5 Illinois vs #2 UConn for the 5th round of games....I will hold my predictions for the winners of these games until next week. As like this past weekend of games, anything can happen.

There are as many number 1 and number 2 seeds in the tournament as there are out of the tournament. What a weekend of basketball. What a weekend of upsets. First round of games, there was only a couple minor upsets. That all changed in round two when we saw Kentucky lose to UAB by one point despite the Wildcats having the last shot. The other number 1 seed, Stanford lost to Alabama by three in anothe close finish game. Gonzaga and Mississippi State, number 2 seeded teams lost by sizeable margines. Perhaps it was not facing as tough of opponents during the regular season some will say. To me it's more proof of fan favorites getting a higher seed because of popularity [Gonzaga].
Round three tips off Thrusday, looking forward to some very good games. See you then.

Interesting day of basketball it was today. Nothing really major for upsets, but there was a number five seed losing out to a number twelve. I wouldn't call it major unless you had high hopes for Florida in your bracket picks. There was however some very close and scary finishes for a couple of the higher seeded teams! Maryland, a three point victory. Wake Forest a ONE point victory. First round jitters?
What a feeling it is after the first 16 games have been played to gp 16 and 16 on your selections. One person has a perfect bracket going into the final half of the first round of games to be played on Friday. Three people had 15 of 16 correctly picked and quite a handful correctly picked 14 out of 16. If I recall from last years pool, there was one person with a perfect bracket at this point in the tournament. However after the final 16 games were played they had four wrong picks. Could we have a perfect bracket after the first round? Find out tomorrow night.

I'm tweaking my scoring chart and tie breaker methods slightly. I'm still favoring the lower round games on points, as they are just as important as the final games. Here is the updated scoring and tie breaker methods:

Greetings! The Final Four March Madness Tournament kicks off today as Selection Sunday plays out this afternoon. This is my seventh year of hosting an online office pool. Not much has changed, we only play for "bragging rights", there is no entry fee, there are no paying advertisements here and we are still NOT affiliated with the NCAA. If your here looking for an official website of the Final Four tournament, this AIN'T the place. I would start with this site called ncaasports.com
The rest of the website will be coming on line later this afternoon. I'll complete the 64 teams Final Four bracket once the pairings are announced. I'll make a printable bracket available as well.
The links need to be updated still. I'll go through what I have linked so far and remove or add any sites that need updating. If you are running a site or what yours listed, drop me a line and I'll get it listed ASAP.
